SWIM ACADEMY
SwimMING Lessons
We are very happy to be working with Water Safety Ireland and following their seal 1 – Marlin 10 Swim awards Programme and we pride ourselves on not only teaching children how to swim but also how to be safe on or near water.
We are the only 25m swimming pool in Wexford town with a deep end so as your child progresses up through the groups, they will be taught how to swim in deep water, improve their fitness and learn simple rescue techniques. Our Group lessons are Monday – Sunday, the classes are 40 minutes and class ratios vary from 1:8 to 1:12. The lessons are 10 weeks and must be prebooked. We recommend children new to our lessons are assessed during a public swim before registration dates so they can be placed in lessons most suited to them. We have Deck side spectator areas to watch the swimming lessons and a communal changing village with private family cubicles and individual cubicles and showers. We start children from 4 years of age in our group lessons. Please check the timetable for availability and the next registration date for our group lessons.
We believe every child should have the opportunity to grow up with a love for the water but also a respect for it too. So here at Wexford swimming pool we divide up the 10 certificates into 5 Groups, 2 certificates per group.
Swim Academy
GROUP 1
At 4 years of age our beginner swimmers will start in Group 1, certificate Seal 1 & 2 in the small pool.
Here they will learn the basic of swimming, floating, blowing bubbles and kicking their legs.
We introduce them to the rules of the pool and talk to them about how to be safe in the swimming pool.
Our aim for group 1 is to have the kids swimming confidently on their belly and their back, then they are ready to move up to the big pool.
GROUP 2
In Group 2 in the shallow end Certificate Seal 3 & 4, we start teaching the children Front Crawl & Back Crawl. We also introduce them to breaststroke for the first time.
We talk to the kids about pool safety and about how we can stay safe when outdoors near rivers or canals.
Our aim for group 2 is to have the kids swimming 5m swims in all 3 main strokes, ready for the move up to Group 3.
GROUP 3
In Group 3, certificate Seal 5 and Seal 6 in the middle of the pool, the kids are introduced to lots of new swimming techniques, Dolphin action, inverted Breaststroke, sculling and Treading water.
The children will also learn about beach safety, how to stay safe while on the beach and when swimming in the sea with currents and tides.
Our aim for Group 3 is have the kids swimming 10m, getting them ready for swimming in the deep end.
GROUP 4
In Group 4, Certificate Marlin 7 & 8, the children will be swimming in the deep end, practicing the 4 main strokes and will be introduced to the rescue strokes, Inverted Breaststroke, and sidestroke.
The kids will learn all about farm safety and how to stay safe while out in the countryside.
Our aim for group 4 is to have the kids swimming 20m and to improving their technique and timing.
GROUP 5
Our final group is group 5, Certificate 9 & 10, the kids will be swimming in the deep end and working on building up their fitness, swimming 50m for all 3 main strokes and 25m for all remaining strokes.
The kids will learn a lot about water safety, they will learn the basics of water safety rescues, including how to contact EMS and how to use their voice to help and practising throwing rescue techniques. We will talk to them about how to call for help if they ever find themselves in difficulty in the water and how to deal with hyperthermia and personal safety on and near the water.
Our aim is to have the kids swimming to a very high standard by the time they finish here with us, giving them the best possible chance at pursuing the next step in their swimming journeys.
ADULT LESSONS
Adult lessons are Tuesday evening at 8pm and Wednesday evening at 7.45pm for 10 weeks. Our adult lessons are suited to all swimming abilities and fitness levels and improves physical & mental wellbeing and its never to late to learn. The Class ratio would be 1:10.
